In this we are going to see

2.Latitude-important latitudes
3.Longitudes-longitude and time
4.Local time
5.Standard time
6.Time zones
7.International date line
8.Great circles and small circles

1. A grid is vertical and horizontal line on a map
The geographic grid refers to the internationally recognized system of latitude and longitude used to locate positions on the Earth's surface.

2.latitudes represent the north -south location of a place on the surface of the earth.
Latitudes is defines as an angular distance of a place,P( located on the surface of the Earth) which it makes with the centre (A) of the Earth.

Important Latitudes

Equator 0:The imaginary line running from the east to west through the centre of the Earth .It divides the Earth into the northern and southern hemispheres.
.231/2N and 231/2S: These are the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of  Capricorn.
.66 1/2N and 66 1/2S They are the Artic Circle and Antartic Circle, repectively.
.90 N and 90S: These are the north pole, and the South Pole.

3.Longitudes  can be defined as an angular distance of a place ,P(located on the of the Earth).
The longitudes are also called 'meridians of longitude'.

4.The rotation of the Earth on its axis is responsible for the occurrence of day and night. This phenomena is the basic of time measurement . The total time taken remains the same. it is only the lengths of the days and nights that vary . The noon is the time of the day when the sun is at its highest position or at its zenith

5.The local time of the central meridian is accepted as the local time of the whole country . This time is called the standard time and meridian is called the standard time and the meridian is called the standard meridian.

6.Time zones
internationally,24 time zones are
accepted. As one moves westered, each time zones entered is one hour behind the time zones one leaves . Similarly, as one moves eastward, each time zones is one hour ahead of the time zones one leaves.

7.The international date line is an imaginary line.

8.A great circle is defined as any circles on the earth whose center coincides with the center of the earth. Great circles divides the earth into two equal halves. A great circle is the largest circles that can be drawn on any space.

The arc of a great circles is always the shortest distance. This saves fuel and time , for example Newyork and Mumbai.

Facts: The geographic grid uses latitude and longitude. the latitude lines are invisible line that run east to west. Longitude lines run north to south around the length of the earth.
