Computer processor
What is processor ?
A processor is the logic circuitry that respond to and processes the basic instructions that drive by a computer. The term processor has generally replaced the term central processing unit (CPU). The processor in a personal computer or embedded in small devices is often called a microprocessor.
how much processor are there ?
There are three types of processors available for computer systems. They are Intel , AMD and Apple M1.
Intel
What is intel ?
Intel Core are streamlined midrange consumer ,workstation and enthusiast computers central processing units.
Types of intel processor ( Majorly used processors )
(i) Pentium(ii) Celeron
(iii) Intel core 2
(iv) Intel core i3
(v) Intel core i5
(vi) Intel core i7
(vii) Intel core i9
(i) Pentium
Pentium was named by intel and it was developed by intel introduced in 1993.
(ii) Celeron
Celeron is a brand name given by intel to a number of different low end model targeted at low-cost personal computers it is introduced in April 1998.
(iii) Intel core 2
Intel core 2 is named by intel it is developed intel . The processor was introduced on July 27 , 2006.
(iv) Intel core i3
Intel core i3 is a family of intel. i3 was introduced January 04,2010.
The core i3 is the third line in Intel Core "I" branding (i3,i5,i7) . The core i3 chips do not include the Turbo Boost feature which is found in i5,i7 and i9 chips.
(v) Intel core i5
Intel core i5 was developed and manufactured by intel. It was much more powerful than i3 processor and it was launched for users who does a lot of intense work like developing software, games, etc. i5 was introduced in 2009.
(vi) Intel core i7
Intel core i7 was developed and manufactured by intel. It has more cores than the previous generation intel processor. It brings out high efficiency and saves more power consumptions. It is marketed to gaming enthusiasts.
(vii) Intel core i9
Intel core i9 is one of the most powerful processors intel has developed. It was developed in May 2017. It can be used for research purposes, gaming, developing industry level software and for lag free video streaming, etc.
AMD
What is AMD ?
AMD - Advanced Micro Devices was founded on 1st May 1969. It provides chipset to PC manufactures at lesser price than the intel processors.
Types of AMD processors ( Majorly used processors )
(i) A series
(ii) Athlon Series
(iii) Opteron Series
(iv) phenom Series
(v) R series ( Ryzen )
(i) A series
APUs are general purpose processors that feature integrated graphic processor. These A series processors are mainly focused for laptops . As compared to an intel quad core CPU, they have lower CPU performance but higher GPU performance.
(ii) Athlon series
Athlon series processors were developed to compete with intel Pentium processor. Pentium processors are powerful in CPU whereas Athlon processor are powerful in GPU. This AMD processor is much cheaper than intel processor.
(iii) Opteron Series
Opteron series are name by AMD and it is designed for server market and it competed with intel's xenon processor. These are not widely used right now.
(iv) Phenom Series
Phenom series are named by AMD it is a 64-bit microprocessor it support extreme cooling mechanism to keep the processor cool.
(v) R series ( Ryzen)
Ryzen series are used in both laptop and desktop systems it has more inbuilt GPU power than the intel processor. There are many types of Ryzen series such as R3, R5, R7 similar to intel processor naming. These are cost efficient as well as bettel that intel i series processors.
Apple Chipset for MacBook
Apple M1
The Apple M1 is the first ARM-based system on a chip designed by Apple Inc. as a central processing unit for its line of Macintosh computers. It is used in the MacBook Air, Mac mini and MacBook pro. soon M1X Chipset will available for MacBook pro.
